Electricity prices have gone up in almost every part of the world ( where the price is not controlled by the government ). Families are facing problems paying the bills. The energy troubles started in Europe, and the primary cause is geopolitical. Russian Federation reduced gas delivery to Europe to force them to give authorization for North Stream 2 pipeline. Few management mistakes by energy companies in Europe and there we are, a full Energy crysis that pread on the entire planet.

Bottom line, the demand is bigger than the offer. Europe relies on natural gas for hearing, which is also used for electricity production. Since the production takes time to adjust to the new demand, the only option we have is to reduce consumption, at least for a while.

In order to lower your electricity bill, you have to determine which of your appliances are eating up the most energy. You can start with the lightning. If you still have old light bulbs ( incandescent, fluorescent, halogen ), you should replace those with led light bulbs.

Then, try to figure out which appliances are using more power than needed starting with the ones that stays on the most. For example fridge, freezers, water heater. You can determine their wattage using a power counter that you can find in any home decoration store. Compare the electricity consumption with a new one. You can use our power saving calculator to determine how much money you can save by replacing your old appliances.

Don’t bother with appliances that are powered on less than 3 hours per week. For example, for a vaccum cleaner, don’t worry if it has a power of 2000 watts. it stays on less than 3 hours a week and the money saved to replace it with a smaller vaccum cleaner is unimportant.

If you use electricity for heating, you might consider switching or upgrading to a heat pump. Heat pumps ( similar technology with Air Conditioners ), are using electricity to compress and decompress a volatile gas, that will take energy from outside and move it inside ( or reverse ). This way, it can produce on average 3 times more energy ( heat ) that the electricity consumed.
